Project Background

A major electronics manufacturing plant in southern Vietnam, producing components for international automotive and consumer electronics brands, faced a critical vulnerability: the local power grid experienced frequent outages averaging 3-4 per month, each lasting from 30 minutes to several hours.

Even a brief power interruption could ruin entire production batches of sensitive semiconductor components, resulting in material losses worth tens of thousands of dollars per incident. The facility needed a backup power system that could seamlessly take over within seconds of any grid failure, while also handling the plant’s fluctuating load profile during peak and off-peak production shifts.

The Challenge

Our Solution

MechVolt Power designed a tiered backup power system that prioritizes critical loads while maintaining overall facility operations:

  • Primary backup: 1 × 1000 kVA Perkins-powered generator with ultra-fast ATS, dedicated to critical production lines and clean rooms
  • Secondary backup: 1 × 500 kVA generator for HVAC systems, lighting, and administrative areas
  • ATS system: Dual automatic transfer switches with less than 5-second transfer time for critical loads
  • Enclosure: Ultra-quiet soundproof canopy (68 dBA @ 7m) to meet strict noise regulations
  • Monitoring: Remote monitoring system with real-time alerts sent to facility management via SMS and email
